“Where am I…”

              

Those are the words uttered as I pulled up to a farm 10 minutes outside of downtown Peterborough. A simple wooden sign etched with the words “Escape Maze” and an arrow prompted me to park on an adjacent gravel lot. As I exited my car, gravel rocks shot out from under my leather Sperry topsiders with each step I took closer towards the barn. The words, “Last Chance” were etched onto the top of the door as I walked inside. Doubts started flying through my head as to whether this was actually Escape Maze, or just someone's scary residence. Finally, the front desk comes into view and I feel like I had just entered a location from the 1880s. The staff, the barn, the decorations... everything looks like it was untouched for over 100 years. Needless to say, wearing my watch, shirt and phone, I stood out like a sore thumb!

 

I hope this paints a vivid picture of the setting of Escape Maze. My words cannot do justice to the effort that these wonderful people have put into the design of their facility. Hands down, this is the most well put together entrance and waiting area to an escape company that I have ever seen. Most companies have different themes for each room and a plain waiting area. Escape Maze has chosen to revolve their entire facility around the 1880s theme, with each room exhibiting a different aspect of that era. The staff, who stay in character while you are there, are very friendly and helpful!

 

As a bonus after the escape, players get to join in on the old-timey experience! The dressing area has an assortment of clothes and accessories of the 1880s for pictures! At this point, being so immersed in the theme, we couldn't wait to cover up our futuristic garb! Theme integration is definitely the highlight of Escape Maze!
