The Hangover is an interesting 45-minute escape centering around waking up in a locked room after having a fun night out. The premise is fun and plays well into the design of the room. Items are interesting and the escape is decorated well for the most part. Germaphobes beware! Some players will have to look and reach under some pretty dirty items during this game. The Hangover is a step above its sister room, The Vacancy, with some additional exciting features and surprises.

Akin to The Vacancy, puzzles were both the strongest and weakest aspects of this escape. Some puzzles were very unique, involving manipulation of objects in ways I have not yet seen. Items were certainly comprehensive, requiring team coordination from different areas of the room to solve problems. Nothing was overly difficult to solve or required any major prior knowledge. On the flipside, The Hangover suffers from the same abstract issues as The Vacancy does, albeit to a lesser extent. There were some puzzles that required giant leaps in logic to solve, with many of our team members left with a dumbfounded look after being told of what we were supposed to do. The biggest culprit was the final puzzle which involved items around the escape without any real direction that they were supposed to be used together. In addition, there was a certain object that could become a game-breaker if used incorrectly. This happened to our group and we were told that other groups had similar outcomes as well. We had a positive discussion with the staff afterwards regarding changes that could prevent this issue.

Overall, The Hangover is a step above its sister room, The Vacancy. There's a fun story with interesting designs and some very unique puzzles. With a couple of modifications, I can see this escape being really fun to play in the Ottawa area!
