Do you fancy yourself a connoisseur of science and mystery? Enter the Mad Scientist Laboratory where Professor Stroganoff, a world renowned scientist working for the government's top secret projects, has left his job in anger and it's up to you to discover his secret lab! A crazed scientist seems to be a more prevalent issue than I once thought. The room escape industry has really opened my eyes to this problem!

A/maze does a great job of creating a very unique twist on the often-overused mad scientist theme. This large escape combines unique puzzles and set design to immerse you into Dr. Stroganoff’s work. The puzzles were unique, novel, logical and most of all entertaining. I was particularly impressed with the decorations and theme integration in the latter half of the escape. However, we experienced a few small issues with the Mad Scientist Laboratory. In the latter half of the escape, props become overwhelming, creating a sea of red herrings, which caused frustration. This issue affects one puzzle in particular. I’ll just leave it at that to avoid releasing any spoilers towards the room. In addition to this, a different puzzle was not working entirely as intended and even though we knew what had to be done, it was difficult to attain the answer. We did however, offer a simple solution that the staff seemed to be interested in modifying. Hopefully it will fix any issues with this puzzle in the future!

I should mention that I experienced one safety hazard when I had to place my hand in a certain location. While feeling around for objects, I unknowingly moved my hand into a frayed metal wire. This was painful and not fun. While A/maze stated that this never happened before, I urge them to make small changes to try and prevent any possible safety risks!

Issues aside, this was a very well put together room! The set and puzzle design along with a few surprises make the Mad Scientist Laboratory a very fun solve if you’re in the Montreal area!
